When your shower was originally installed, the main method was to cover the walls with green rock. Green rock is water repellant, not water proof. After a few times of getting wet, the paper on the green rock will loosen. At that time you may see some tile movement or just have grout disappearing. When you're at that stage, it's over! The other cause of shower leaks is the shower enclosure. If the metal joints are not caulked from the inside, then the metal acts as a funnel. To the right is a picture of soap scum that has bubbled up and over the rubber gasket. Clogged or caulked over weep holes can cause this. Once shower water gets into the track, it stagnates and gives off a bad odor.

Ever wonder why when you clean the shower and THAT smell will go away but, two days later it's back? Ever wonder why you can't clean or kill all of the mold in the grout?

To the left is a picture of what you can't see until the enclosure is disassembled. Notice the space where the grout should be? Also, when a repair of a shower enclosure is done, the metal has to be replaced so the caulk will bond. The black glass rubber gasket is replaced also. Once reassembled we re-caulk the shower with a 50 year silicon caulk (white) and we also seal the faucet trim ring and soap dish.

The answer is because the mold gets reactivated every time you use a leaking shower! If you have a bug problem, then fixing the shower will stop the reason why bugs live in your house. A dark wet and molding area is a great home for roaches, silver fish, termites or ants.

Why use Taylor Glass to repair your shower?

·         We use hardybacker instead of sheet rock so we can have a water tight seal.

·         We only use Tile Mastic (glue) instead of thin set.

·         We only use new tile because old tile will not lay flat.

·         We caulk with 50 year white silicon only
(Ace brand is my favorite)

So after our repair, there is no paper or sheet rock to break down. Our goal is to never return to your house because of a shower question. But other work is always welcomed!  :)
